Keeping the buses rolling
Danny Libs is director of transportation for the NAFC School Corporation. He makes sure 107 buses are well maintainted and running each day.. Safety is Mr. Libs biggest concern. When bad weather is forecast 5 representatives in the corporation get up at 3:30 a.m. and drive around the city and county roads. Dr. Dennis Brooks makes the final decision at 5:30 a.m. to either call off school or state there is a 2-hour delay in the school day.. The school buses are thoroughly checked by an Indiana State Police inspector each year.. There are 139 bus drivers including the substitute drivers.. A new school tour bus used for transporting athletic teams will be purchased this year. The current bus has been used since 1973 and has over 1 million miles on it.
