Growing number of nonprofits are gambling on charitable gaming

It isn't easy in an uncertain economy for charities to raise money, but a recession-drivin drip in donations has some Indiana organizations betting on the appeal of gambling for a good cause. An increasing number of nonprofits in the state have applied for and received "charity gaming" licenses, hoping to cash in on the millions of dollars waged every year on bingo games, raffles, pull tabs and even water races. According to the Indiana Gaming Commission, which regulates chairitable gaming in the state, the number of organizations with charitable gaming licenses went up from 2,385 in 2008 to 2,912 in 2010
