Ind. abuse, neglect deaths up 28 percent in 2008

Child abuse and neglect deaths in Indiana shot up 28 percent during the state's 2008 fiscal year, ending four straight years of declines, according to a report released Thursday by the Indiana Department of Child Services. Twenty-four children died from abuse and 22 from neglect during the 12 months that ended June 30, 2008. The 46 deaths were 10 more than in 2007 but less than in earlier years
