City and County officials had previously discussed consolidating the 2 emergency call centers when the new firehouse on Spring St. was built. Currently, a call first goes to the county police dispatch office, is then relayed to the city's dispatch center, which calls the local volunteer fire department or appropriate county agency. A merged department would save some steps. John Reisert is president of the Floyd County Board of Commissioners who is promoting this merger.
