False 911 alarms could result in fines

The Floyd County Commissioners hope a new ordinance will cut down on the numberof false alarms. It calls for the home or business owner to be fined after six false alarm runs. The ordinance calls for a $75 fine on the seventh false alarm during a calendar year, $150 on the eighth alarm and $300 on the ninth false alarm. The ordinance will become law in 2010 after homeowners and alarm companies are notified. A company reporting an alarm is not responsible for the fine according to the ordinance
