Full-steam ahead
Two hundred years ago, a steam boat sailed down the Onio River for the first time and opened a port of economic possibilities for New Albany. By the 1850s, Floyd County Historian Dave Barksdale said the city trailed only Pittsburgh in terms of steamboat manufacturing. Chuck Parrish, a retired historian who serves on the advisory board of the Rivers Institute of Hanover College, is the featured speaker at the New Albany-Floyd County Public Library
