First GOP candidate files for city election

Dennis McDaniel Jr. became the first Republican to file for the Nwalbany city elections this week as he declared Thursday in the Dictrict 2 City Council race. While several Democrats -- incumbants and challengers -- have filed for the May primary, McDaniel's entry marked the first and only GOP candidate to declare for the mayoral, council or city clerk contests as of Friday. Other filings of note this week included Mayor Doug England, who made it official and declared to runf for one of three at-large council slots
