Flag Day offers many a chance for reflection

The history of Flag Day dates back to 1885 when a schoolteacher in Fredonia WI encouraged students to commemorate the anniversary of the American flag. From then on, towns all over the nation began holding celebrations honoring the flag and what it symbolizes. In August 1949, President Harry Truman signed an Act of Congress designating June 14 of each year as National Flag Day.
