ISP's motor carrier inspector jobs cut

About half of the inspectors for the Indiana State Police's Motor Carrier Division will lose their jobs at the end of the year as the state faces budget cuts and financial hardships. Motor carrier inspectors are civilians employed by Indiana State Police; they do not carry guns and are charged with checking trucks and buses for things like weight and safety violations -- they are allowed to stop trucks weighing more than 26,000 pounds. Indiana is divided into quadrants, and eight to 12 positions from each of the four regions will be cut; troopers are being reassigned to fulfill the responsibility of motor carrier inspectors
