Slain officer honored 77 years after his death

Jeff Firkins, Floyd County Police officer, has worked to get Daniel Mayfield's name added to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Wall in Washington, D.C.. Sheriff Mayfield was the first and to date the last, Floyd County officer to die in the line of duty.. Sheriff Mayfield was pursuing two cars containing men who had just broken into Farmer's State Bank in Lanesville when he was shot in the head.
