Proposed recycling facility draws residents' ire

A proposed steel recycling facility on Silver Street has many residents upset, fearing their neighborhood will be damaged forever. Silver Street Property, LLC, along with Cumberland Recycling, is planning to put a facility to recycle steel and other metals, including aluminum cans, at the site of the old Hoosier Panel Plant. The 15-acre lot was on the agenda of the New Albany Board of Zoning Appeals last week but was tabled until the Oct. 5 meeting so developers could answer some of the residents complaints.
