Open or shut?

East Spring Street Neighborhood Association is hosting a Board of Works meeting at 6:30 p.m. on June 29. The public is encouraged to attend. "During board of Works meetings, department leaders from the police, fire, flood control, sanitation, street, cemetery, building commissioner, sewer and animal shelter are in attendance to give reports and are available if questions arise.". The meeting will include discussion as to whether to reopen Locust Street, part of which has been closed since 1998 when renovations at New Albany High School and Hazelwood Middle School began. Some want to reopen it; Steve Sipes, principal of New Albany High School, wants it to remain closed, for the safety of the students. (Students cross Locust to go to physical education classes, and various other school activities.)
