Teens go without to make a difference

More than 30 teenagers voluntarily gave up their weekend to experience a 30-hour famine. During the lenten exercise the youth were given different identities: wealthy, middle class and poor. They spent 2 hours at The Healing Place where they learned about people who had to leave their families because of a drug addiction. Later they went to Wal-Mart to purchase baby items for St. Elizabeth's. The students were given $30-$35 to decide what to spend on food, diapers and/or toys. After the day's activities they went ice skating before returning to Our Lady of Perpetual Help to spend the night. After the 11:00 a.m. Mass a meal was served.. Photograph accompanies the article.
