Sewer rate increase defeated

The City Council unanimously defeated a 70 percent rate increase for monthly sewer use. The State Revolving Fund Loan Program agreed to refinance New Albany's debt and extend the sewer utility a low-interest loan so the city can complete projects mandated by the Environmental Protection Agency. By law, New Albany must hold a public hearing in addition to its council casting three ballots on the proposed increase
