Rich in history

Division Street School celebrates 125th anniversary. The school operated as a segregated, blacks only building. It took 11 years of work, but it finally paid off with the school being opened for tours and school groups to learn what it was like in 1885, when the school opened on New Years Day. The school has one room set aside with artifacts and displays and another set up as a classroom, with wooden desks like those used when the school was open. This weekend's open house is the first of many events planned for the year in celebration of the school's 125th anniversary; there will be an event each month. Photographs accompany the article
