Salvation Army celebrates another successful year
In 2008-09, the Salvation Army helped 17,584 people with utilities, 9,657 through the food pantry and another 2,166 with clothing and furniture. That does not mention the 72 people who stayed at the Green Valley Road facility during the ice storm or the 7,233 people who were fed following the wind storm in 2008. The Army managed to help 4,654 children through the Angel Tree and another 4,290 were given Christmas gifts through the organization's toy shop. The transitional housing program is celebrateing its 10th year; the program has helped 195 individuals and 72 families over the past decade. Several businesses, individuals and volunteers were also honored at the luncheon
