Pertaining to People

William Banes, long a reputable citizen of New Albany, was born in Philadelphia June 13, 1818. After a common school education he was apprenticed to learn the carpenter's trade under the old fashioned "Indenture" and served four years. He worked at the trade at Philadelphia a few years and went to Covington, Ky., and remained there awhile. In 1849 he married Miss Mary T. Bartlett, of Philadelphia, and she is still living, they having one daughter. Mr. Banes since 1846 has been an enthusiastic Odd Fellow and he has been prominent here in the order. He is a contractor and builder and has erected many of the best residences in New Albany. Mr. Banes came here in 1852.
