Sarah Gordon
This is the name of Capt. Hinckley's new boat, just completed, now lying at the foot of State street. She is 135 feet in length on deck; beam 22 feet 4 inches; hold 5 feet 3 inches. The hull was built by Messrs. Jones & Hungary; the cabin by Hart & Stoy. Her furnishing, such as carpets, bedding, &c., is from the extensive establishment of Messrs. Hurlbut & Mann; mattresses by Scott, Brindley, & Miller; furniture repaired by Porter & Mantz; painting by Harmanson & Co. She is furnished with two boilers and a doctor, from the foundry of Lent, South, & Shipman. The remainder of the machinery is taken from the Rio Grande, but has been thoroughly overhauled and carefully examined in every particular, and repaired in the most durable manner.. The "Sarah Gordon" is intended for the Bayou trade in Louisiana, and was built expressly with that view, for which she is well calculated. She will make a trial trip to the wood-yard today, and will probably leave for Portland this evening or tomorrow, where she will take in freight for New Orleans. Although making no pretensions to splendor, she is a boat of which neither her owners or builders have cause to be ashamed. She furnishes one more instance to the numerous ones which have preceeded her, of the skill of our mechanics in this department. We wish her a prosperous career and hope that hew owners may make a fortune from her.
