Port of New Albany

A letter from Washington, published yesterday, informed our readers that New Albany had been made a port of delivery by Congress. This will be gratifying intelligence to every citizen of our rapidly augmenting community. We further learn that C. B. Applegate, Esq., yesterday received information that he had, upon the recommendation of our Representative in Congress, been appointed by the President and confirmed by the Senate, as Surveyor of the Port. We consider this an excellent appoint [sic], and one which will give universal satisfaction. We are also pleased to see that the business of our post office has increased to such extent as to require the appointment of postmaster to be made by the President. Mr. Harrison has been re-appointed and confirmed by the Senate.
