The Fish Market Nuisance

The Fish Market Nuisance

The fragrant nuisance at the upper end of the middle market is to-day odorous in its stench of stinking water and the slops from slimy fish. The gutter is flowing with the offal of fish tables, and the atmosphere is redolent of the noxious gasses that are generating in them, to the detriment of the health of those who inhabit the neighborhood. This nuisance should be abated in some manner; and if the Committee on Markets were compelled to stand during a hot day within the radius of the stench created by it, we are confident they would recommend some means of abatement. It was once said that the man in the moon had to hold his nose when he passed over a certain Indiana town; but if the lunar gentleman aforesaid had to pass over our New Albany fish market very often he would find it necessary to dispose entirely of his nasal organ. Do, gentlemen of the Committee on Markets, have the nuisance abated.
