Terrible Monon Wreck
South bound passenger train No. 3 and north bound passenger train No. 6, pulled by engines 86 and 24, came in collision Sunday forenoon near 11 o'clock at Salt Creek curve, 78 miles north of New Albany and eight miles north of Bedford, utterly wrecking both engines and telescoping and breaking to fragments a mail car, express car and chair car, and killing two men outright, fatally injuring another, and more or less badly wounding a dozen others.. Arthur Byrn, engineer of the south bound train, residence East Elm street, near Thomas, New Albany.. George Kohl, fireman of the south bound train, residence East Poplar street, New Albany.. The remains of engineer Byrn and fireman Kohl were brought to the city Sunday night.... Robert E. Muir, James A. Tilford, Charles Hooper, and William H. Thompson, all of New Albany, were variously wounded...
