The late Joseph A. Moffett, whose death at New Orleans on the 28th ult. was announced in Friday's Ledger, was buried in that city, where he had long resided. In the forties and fifties Mr. Moffett was one of New Albany's most enterprising citizens. His two terms as Mayor of the city were distinguished for the rapid advance the city made in material improvement, particularly in street improvements. He was an earnest member of the M.E. church for over sixty years, and the last survivor of those who organized the first Lodge of Odd Fellows in Indiana--Lodge No. 1 at New Albany. He leaves a wife, daughter and two sons, all residents of New Orleans, his wife being a sister of Hon. Joshua P. Farnsley, of Harrison county.
