N.A. without an excursion steamer?
The sale of the Steamer Music by the recent purchasers of the New Albany and Portland Ferry Company to the Cincinnati and Newport Ferry Company, and its transfer to that company leaves New Albany without an excursion steamer and but one boat--the "Rush"--to do the ferrying business between this city and Louisville, thus compelling most of the travel between the two cities to use the Kentucky and Indiana Bridge. There is nothing specially deplorable in the latter, but the loss of an excursion boat here is certain to be supplied by the building of a new boat for that special purpose. Such a boat here would pay during the spring, summer and autumn largely enough, it is believed, to justify laying up during the winter. The "Rush" is a good enough boat for the Ferry business, which is certain to decline as the advantages of using the bridge become better understood and appreciated. Tuesday Sept. 30, 1890, pg. 5 col. 2: One of the late purchasers of the New Albany and Portland ferry company states that the steamer Music has not been sold but only leased to the Cincinnati and Newport ferry company. The price paid for her by the lessees is $300 per month. This is a good deal better than selling the boat.
