Local 40/8 chapter in New Albany formed in 1946
Progress 2002 - Decade in Review - Part 3 of 5. "Voiture" is french for box car ... they were labeled on the side "Hommes 40-Chevaux 8", which was shortened to 40/8 ... which means 40 men of 8 horses. In 1920 the Forty and Eight was formed as a place for Legionnaires to blow off steam. It was known as the Legion's Honor Society, since membership in the American Legion and service to that organization was mandatory for membership in the 40/8. Contains more history about the local 40/8 chapter, which was formed in 1946. Also, describes the "Nurses' Training Scholarship" and various other programs offered by the club
