Habitat For Humanity's mission is to put families in homes

The local group of volunteers for Habitat for Humanity has built 11 homes in the city. The organization was begun by Millard and Linda Fuller in Americus, Georgia in 1976. Each partner family is expected to invest ""sweat equity"" or volunteer labor in the construction of their home. This reduces the cost of the houses, increases the pride of ownership and develops positive relationships with others. The organization is located at 711 E. Eighth St. It is looking for volunteers, land, churches, business and civic organizations, local government, and foundations and sororities to participate.
