Highlander Point developers agree to pay state fine

M.E.K.A. Inc. which owns Highlander Point Shopping Center has been discussing the sewage treatment plant with the Indiana Department of Environmental Mangement for more than a year. A sewage treatment plant was constructed without a state permit. That plant was built after plans for another sewage treatment plant fell through. MEKA paid a $10,000 fine to the state in 2000. This was part of an agreement plan for pollution violations by the previous plant. The owners of Highlander Point would like to run a sewer line from Floyds Knobs to the City of New Albany's sewage system to solve the problem completely.
