Governor signs dating violence bill
Gov. Mitch Daniels praised an Indianapolis woman Monday for overcoming her daughter's grisly slaying by an estranged high school boyfriend to successfully push for a new state law than encourages schools to address dating violence. Daniels told Debbie Norris during a ceremonial bill signing of "Heather's Law," named after her daughter, that he admires her for turning her personal tragedy into "something very positive and constructive". Gov. Daniels gave the law, which requires the Indiana Department of Education to develop dating violence educational materials and model dating violence response and reporting policies; those models must be available by July 1, 2011, to help schools implement the dating violence education programs and policies for grades six through 12
