Fire, police still waiting on 2009 contract

Union leaders say there are no major issues holding up the process, but it's unlikely either wing of New Albany's public safety branch will have a 2009 contract signed by the end of the year; the police and fire departments are operating on 2008 agreements. The president of the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 99 said there aren't requests for pay raises for 2009 in the public safety contracts. The request is to shift $1.5 million in Economic Development Income Tax to the fire and police funds for 2010, but the council rejected the proposal in December on the initial reading
