Floyd County not meeting air standards

Floyd County has been designated as a "non-attainment area" for the first time. This means the air here is sometimes unhealthy to breathe.. Stricter rules were adopted in 1997. Ozone levels must average less than 0.08 parts per million in an 8-hour period.. Health concerns are the major motivation behind the lower levels.. Economic concerns also influence whether a business will locate in an area. They must receive a state permit in order to expand or build.
