Lessons in transition

Hazelwood welcomes fifth-graders to school. Principal Jessica Waters, who is in her first year in that position, said the school's focus has been on helping to transition both the new sixth- and fifth graders; before school started, Hazelwood even hosted an event where parent and students got to tour the building, meet teachers, learn the rules and more. Fifth-graders are on their own schedule, have their own area of the building and have their own lunch period. Photographs accompany the article
