Local group hopes to help animal owners with pets' medical costs

Michelle VanGilder recalls the shock she felt when she learned that her local animal shelter, at that time in a town outside of Newport News, Va., put down diabetic dogs. Such special-needs pets earned a place in her heart and from then on she began rallying for the animals. There is a new nonprofit in town -- Precious Purrs and Paws Pet Pantry Inc.
