Federal plan covers uninsured with pre-existing health conditions

Americans denied health coverage due to pre-existing medical conditions have a new avenue for obtaining insurance. Through the Affordable Care Act, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has established a transitional plan that will last until 2014, when insurance companies will be prohibited from excluding adults with pre-existing conditions. The federal health care reform package earmarked $5 billion for the measure, known as the Pre-existing Condition Insurance Plan, or PCIP
