Hot stuff

Floyd County 4-H Corp. Board president and fair organizer Keith Redden said that people and animals need extra care this week to stay safe in the scorching heat. As the temperatures are expected to remain near triple digits today and Thursday, Redden said keeping cool and staying hydrated should be top priorities, especially after one board member working at the fair was hospitalized and released after becoming overheated at the fair Monday. Families are making sure that their animals -- including goats, lambs, rabbits and a cow -- are getting plenty of water this week, as well as other special attention to help them stay cool.
