Hometown heroes

Wayne Byrd and Kay Thompson are heroes. On Oct. 1, Byrd was riding home from school when Thompson noticed smoke coming through the woods on their way down Corydon Pike in New Albany. Thompson said she let Byrd off the bus farther up the road near the Hitchcock's workshop and informed her dispatcher to call the Georgetown Fire Department.
