Judges select winners in annual Law Day essay contest

Fifth-grade students from across Clark and Floyd counties, 74 in all, competed this year in a Law Day essay contest to explain why they were proud to be an American. Ten finalists selected by local attorneys were invited on Friday afternoon to Floyd County Circuit Court to read their essays in front of a panel of elected and retired judges and magistrates in the two counties. Floyd County Superior Court No. 1 Judge Susan Orth, whose office organizes the event each year, said this gives judges a chance to open up the court to the community and to the children
