Residents could pay more for services

Two rate increases will be up for votes when the New Albany City Council convenes Monday. Raising the stormwater fee from $3.17 to $5.17 a month for residential properties and increasing the garbage rate by $5 a month are scheduled for first votes, as the amendments will need three readings for passage. The increase -- suggested by Mayor Doug Engtland -- would offset a $200,000-a-year deficit that the current sanitation fee doesn't cover; sewer money is being used to cover the loss now
