Protecting the teachers
The Attorney General, Greg Zoeller, is sending letters to educators on a law aimed at protecting them against practicing defensive discipline, where teachers are afraid to discipline because of the threat and cost of litigation. The teachers will have support when it comes to lawsuits dealing with educators who work to maintain order in their classroom. The house Enrolled Act 1462 passed the General Assembly in April and became law July 1. The law gives teachers who are sued for disciplining a student stronger leagal protections, while also making the Attorney General's office represent them in court. Photographs accompany the article
