Post-conviction relief denied in 1996 attempted rape case

David Shirley was sentenced to 70 years in prison after a Floyd County jury found him guilty on charges of class B felonies attempted rape and attempted criminal confinement. Police Officer Julie Condra walked to the parking lot with a woman and she noticed someone in the woman's van. Officer Condra saw Shirley lying in the van covered in pillows and holding a leather belt. Shirley was sentenced to 40 years in prison with an additional 30 years for being a habitual offender; Shirley's projected release date is in December 2031
