White Wife
Undertaker George Shrader is in a quandary over the final disposition of the remains of Mrs. Mary Lancaster, a white woman, who died last evening at her home near the fair grounds, of dropsy. Her husband is a colored man and a member of the Second Baptist church. It was the intention to hold the funeral services at the church tomorrow afternoon and taken the remains to Fairview cemetery for interment. Permission could not be secured to inter the remains there and Undertaker Shrader then concluded to make the interment at the colored cemetery but the regents notified him that the cemetery was for the interment of colored people. Another appeal was made to the Fairview cemetery regents and a meeting will be held this afternoon to decide the question. Mrs. Lancaster's mother owns a lot in the cemetery, and wishes to bury the remains of her daughter in it. [Note: It appears from www.Findagrave.com that Mrs. Lancaster was buried at West Haven.]
