Pertaining to People

Jesse J. Brown is one among our most solid, substantial and estimable citizens. He was born in Baltimore, Maryland, February 28, 1824, and came here when thirteen years old. He completed his education at Anderson's academy here and engaged as a clerk in the postoffice, when A.S. Barnett was postmaster, at $5 per month. He was a partner with James Brooks in queensware business for several years and afterwards operated the business alone. Mr. Brown declined good offices often because it was not to his taste. He was ever enterprising and liberal. He has been connected with the First National Bank since its organization. He is happily married, but two children being born to him and his wife. Mr. Brown is a leading member of the Second Presbyeterian church.
