Mayor William V. Grose, of this city, was impeached Thursday by the City Council, and John Tegart and Charles W. Poutch, members of the Board of Public Works, were removed from office and their successors appointed, while Adam Heimberger, city comptroller, who by virtue of his office would have become mayor had he not been removed by Mayor Grose two hours before the latter's impeachment, was reappointed to the office of city comptroller by Eugene Brisby, city clerk, who, being next in line of promotion [be]came mayor of the city.. The removal of the mayor and the members of the board of works was the result of an investigation conducted by the councilmanic committee on Supervision and investigation.. The charges declared the men guilty of misconduct in office in the acceptance of the sewer system that has just been completed at a cost of $229,000. According to the evidence given before the committee, the mayor and the two members of the board of works apparently favored the sewer contractors...
