Child welfare check turns up drugs, police say

Three people have been arrested in Washington and Scott counties following a welfare check that led to the discovery of nearly 43 grams of methamphetamine and other drugs, according to a news release. Joshua Purlee, 35, of Floyd Knobs, and Deloris Newton, 58, Austin, were arrested Sunday in Washington County and James Newton, 52, of Austin, was arrested after midnight Monday morning.
