Launch of the Robert E. Lee
The magnificent steamer Robert E. Lee, building here for Captain John W. Cannon, was successfully launched this morning from the shipyard of Hill, Roberts, & Co. No accident of moment befel[l] her, and she now sites upon the water, one of the most graceful and beautiful models of a first class steamer we have ever seen. We gave a full description of her a few weeks ago, which has been copied into all the leading papers from Pittsburgh and St. Louis to New Orleans. We do not deem it necessary to say anything more about her to-day than that she will be, in all regards, the finest and best steamer ever built for the Western waters. She will be pushed to completion with all possible speed, and when ready for business will as far excel the brag Pittsburgh boat building for Captain Donaldson, as the great Eclipse excelled the commonest Pittsburgh stern-wheeler.
