A Nuisance
The congregating of wood and hay wagons on Market street, alongside the lower market house, has become an intolerable nuisance. The deposit of manure and other excresences in the street by horses and oxen creates a stench that is perfectly sickening. The market house is not a fit place for teams to stand. The deposits left by the teams there attract the flies in countless numbers, and on market days the meats, butter, vegetables, &c., offered in the markets are litterally covered with these flies, and the stench arising from the deposits left by these teams is nauseating. Several stands for wood and hay wagons should be established; but none of them should be near the market houses, unless the streets are cleaned every day.
