The New Ferry Boat Frank McHarry
Much of this article is the same as the one that appeared in the New Albany Daily Commercial 7/2/1867, pg. 4 col. 3.. The Frank McHarry is named after the late Francis McHarry, so long identified with the steamboat and commercial interests around the falls. She is a model ferry boat in every regard; and no man more than Capt. Moses Irwin, the Superintendent of the Company, deserves credit for her superiority in model, draught, and all other excellent qualities.. The Frank McHarry will be commanded by that popular and genial gentleman, Capt. John B. Mitchell, who, by his uniform courtesy to all who have to use the ferry, has won hosts of friends in this city, as well as Louisville and Portland. Ed. Key is the engineer, and a better one no boat ever had. Thomas Conner is the pilot, and he will keep the McHarry in motion as long as the channel remains at all navigable.. The first team to take its place on the Frank McHarry this morning was that of "Uncle" John Angel, and he has the honor of inaugurating the boat into business. She will be able to run with a full load on a depth of water that the other two boats of the company could scarcely navigate light.
