Soldiers Cemetery
The work of ornamenting the grounds of the Soldiers Cemetery of this city has been pushed with the most commendable zeal by the members of the Grand Army of the Republic, and a vast improvement for the better has been made in this resting place of the brave men of the Union army who died in the hospitals here. All the weeds and briars have been pulled or grubbed up; the graves have been filled and properly rounded and made ready for sodding at the proper season, considerable shrubbery and a number of shade trees have been planted, and a fine wooden monument, designed to be temporary and only to stand until one of stone can be procured, is being put up. This work is a patriotic one, and those engaged in it are worthy of all the financial aid they may ask of the citizens of New Albany. The work will be continued until the cemetery is made one of the most attractive places around the city.
