In looking over the new book being published for the city we found a chronological statement showing the names and years of service of the various officers of the city.. From it we find the city has had eighteen mayors, P.M. Dorsey being the first...There have been thirteen doorkeepers to the council, Samuel P. Creed, the first elect serving longest, six years and three months...There have been fourteen marshals, Thos. Akers holding the office thirteen years, the longest term...There have been seven city weighers, Sam'l Sisloff holding the longest term, sixteen years...There have been nineteen market masters, Robert Beeler holding the longest term, eight years. There have been thirteen wharfmasters, H.J. Reamer holding the longest term, twelve years. There have been nineteen flour inspectors, John H. Lee holding the longest term, six years. ..There have been four gaugers, sixteen lumber measurers, thirteen sextons of the white cemetery, ten wood measurers...
