A New Establishment

Messrs. John B. Ford & Co. of Greenville, gentlemen well and favorably known to our citizens, have lately commenced manufacturing improved shingle machines and straw cutters in our city. They will employ a large number of workmen in order to supply the great demand for these machines. Of the improved straw cutter the Scientific American speaks in a flattering manner -- it is the best authority in the country on the subject of farming implements and machinery of all kinds. Farmers and others in need of an article of this kind would do well to give Messrs. Ford & Co. a call and we have no doubt they can be suited in every respect.-- See advertisement in another column.. Improved Straw Cutter.-- Subscribers at the West, and Southwest, are not unfrequently writing us for information about good straw cutters. One of the best machines that we know of for the purpose of straw, hay, and stalk cutting, is Sandford's Patent, which consists of a double cylinder of knives, whose edges revolve into each other, while in the act of cutting. These knives are capable of an easy adjustment, and any farmer can keep them in good order. The machines are made in large quantities by J. B. Ford, New Albany.
