Gahan: New trash deal should be bid-out

Southern Indiana Waste Systms will begin collecting yard waste including three bulk items weekly from New Albany customers in exchange for an extension of its contract, pending a vote by the City Council Thursday. Under its current deal with the city, SIWS -- which also does business as Echotech -- handles weekly curbside trash removal but is not required to remove yard waste. The waste hauler has also offered to reduce its rate charge to the city of $16.03 per household to $15.18 a month
