Floyd County Jail getting more help

Tuesday afternoon, the Floyd County Council approved a request from Sheriff Darrell Mills to hire three part-time jail officers. The three will get no more than 35 hours a week, and will not be eligible for county benefits. In the past year, 13 new jailers have been hired -- six full-time and seven part-time; the additional appropriation to pay for the officers will likely come from Economic Development Income Tax -- or EDIT -- funds
